Looking Up

Growing Hope Launch
Our community outreach program to support local children to go to school launched for the new academic year in June with the distribution of school supplies to 44 students enrolled in all grades: Kindergarten to Grade 12 senior high.

Unfortunately, the Growing Hope program has been suspended for the month of July. Lifenet's directors made this decision to ensure the safety of our children and families due to a deep excavation project outside the area where House of Joshua is located.
We will resume the program as soon as possible which may include using a temporary alternative location for the Saturday activities until safety is properly restored.

The access road to the House of Joshua has collapsed after heavy rain and the site has filled with 10m of water as an overflow catch basin from the nearby rice fields.

We are currently coordinating with the appropriate authorities to try to have the area secured for all our children, families, staff and visitors.

Keeping A Clear Perspective
Sometimes unexpected situations unfold or difficulties strike without warning and we are challenged to look beyond the mess of uncontrollable circumstances.

There are usually essential life lessons and character growth opportunities hidden in the chaotic but we have to learn to refocus our eyes and hearts to consider them as opportunities rather than opposition.

We will be grateful for your prayers as we try to resolve the problems in a way that reflects our heartfelt values and desire to be a light in our community.

Perseverance Pays
Two of our HOJ teens retook their Alternative Learning System exams In March and have been patiently waiting for the results with the hope to return to formal education and start high school.

Although the results release date was delayed and all our other HOJ kids returned to the new academic year without them, we were all delighted to finally hear of their successes 2 weeks later. They have now been enrolled into Junior High and are settling into the new routine of daily classes and homework assignments.

We now have HOJ kids at all levels of education, preschool, elementary, junior high and senior high which keeps our houseparents busy with the various class times, projects, and activities.

Mission Outreach Service
Our eldest HOJ youth has been serving with Youth With a Mission as a volunteer with the local and international ministry teams. It is a great opportunity to explore his hopes to be a missionary with the YWAM 2018 'Mega Outreach'. He will be returning to HOJ this month to resume his studies and hopefully join a Discipleship Training School (DTS) with YWAM in the future.
